Owned and run by award-winning, husband and wife chefs, south Devon’s award-winning Orestone Manor has it all.

This stately Georgian Manor offers the perfect ingredients for the most idyllic countryhouse stay: a stunning coastal location overlooking Lyme Bay in South Devon; tasteful and elegant bedrooms; a splendid lounge and dining room with period features galore; a top-notch, family-run restaurant that’s just won the enviable award, ‘Best Hotel Restaurant in Devon’. Alongside this, there’s a stunning terrace where you can soak up crisp sea views and the lush Orestone garden, or treat yourself to a delicious cream tea in one of the hotel’s many snuggle spots.

Not many know Orestone Manor was where the world's first Christmas card was designed by artist and Manor founder, Sir John Calcott Horsley, who in turn was Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Brother-In-Law. Fascinatingly, under 20 of these exceptional Christmas cards exist nowadays, fetching up to £20,000+ at auction.

Intriguingly this winter is 160 years since Isambard Kingdom Brunel's era, Kingdom Brunel's National Portrait Gallery painting was created on the Orestone Manor lawn by brother-in law and the Manor's founder, Sir John Calcott Horsley; in fact the late 1840s and early 1850's saw many Brunel/Horsley family gatherings, neighbours were equally famous with Rudyard Kipling living next door at the time.

This modern day country house hotel by the sea is a food-lovers’ hidden gem of a place to stay.

The 14 guestrooms vary in style and ambience, all are full of character with antique furnishings. Some boast private hot tubs, four-posters and roll-top tubs.

The restaurant is exceptional, as you’d expect from a hotel owned by husband and wife chefs. Winning ‘Devon’s Best Hotel Restaurant’ spotlights the skilled Orestone Manor team; the food they serve is simply exceptional.

If you can bear to tear yourself away, there’s plenty to explore nearby, stretch your legs on the coast path that sits right on Orestone Manor’s doorstep, take a seal-spotting stroll along the beach, or tour the ‘English Riviera’, South Devon’s loveliest stretch of coast, dotted with picturesque coves and pretty villages.

One lucky reader and their guest will win a 2-night stay at this splendid 14-bed boutique hotel, with a three course dinner in the award-winning Orestone Manor restaurant on one of the nights, as well as a delicious breakfast each morning.
